When you are lost in the forest
Dear Friends Who Care for Others,
There's something about caretaking that's like getting sandblasted.
Like your identity has been erased.
Poof–it’s gone.
Even if you once enjoyed a very strong sense of self,
it’s not uncommon to emerge (or peak out)
from a caretaking ordeal with no idea whatsoever
how to get back to your self–as though we dropped it
somewhere along the way while wandering through a dark forest.
By the time we realize how far we’ve strayed (or been pulled away!)
from our connection with the self,
it may feel like a lost cause; “What ‘me?’ Which ‘I?’
I had a self once, but I don’t know how I’ll ever find it again.”
This is a very common experience for women
who have been through periods
of being consumed by caretaking others.
Afterall, how can we be expected to locate and resource ourselves,
or to make decisions in our own best interest,
if we’ve gotten used to feeling comfort and peace of mind
only when we can ensure that someone else (or everyone else!)
has what they need?
This is a common experience for women, yes, but it’s not sustainable.
If we want to survive and thrive as caretakers or otherwise,
we need to find a way back to ourselves.
Thankfully, like Gretel in her fairytale,
we have a trick up our sleeves to find a pathway back to ourselves.
The body can be our breadcrumbs....
The Whole Body Recovery Program is designed
to unlock the body’s capacity to tether us to our identities,
and to the values and information that we use
to give our lives meaning and locate ourselves
as we move through this (often spooky) world.
Through the guided practice of bringing one’s presence and attention into certain parts of the body, an individual can begin to re-recognize themselves. Even when we feel like we are lost at the ends of the earth or in the darkest depths of a forest, the body can be a pathway to find our way back home.
This group coaching program brings together the magic of group witnessing
and the effects of various therapeutic modalities
and expressive practices so that the body’s breadcrumbs
become easier and easier to find.
The connection we all have to ourselves
through the body’s innate wisdom
becomes louder and clearer,
and recovery from any number of life’s
difficult circumstances happens organically.
It's easy to get lost.
We all have to give up what we know of our identities in order to be with someone who is dying or suffering from life-threatening illness or injury.
This sandblasting intensity often comes with a conflicting mess of feelings,
which can also cause feelings of shame that lead us
to panic and cower in our disorientation.
It can feel like we are left with absolutely nothing–but you still have a body, right?
You still have a psyche and a body that can be your pathway to recovery.
