Somatic Movement Educator Training Program: Welcoming our Partners to Austin

As you may know, Austin is quickly gaining a national reputation as a thriving destination for art, culture, dance, yoga and innovative movement practices. With that in mind Whole Movement Center wants to break open Austin as epicenter of Somatic therapy and movement  Center of the Southwest . We will be partnering this fall with the Center for Body-Mind Movement, headed by Mark Taylor, as Mark offers the first chapter of the Center’s Somatic Movement Educator Training program right here in Austin.

The Center for Body Mind Movement was originally founded in Pittsburgh, PA and now has extended to several additional sites in Oregon, Mexico, and Brazil. But despite its expanding venues, location and accessibility are still challenging for those who live far from these areas, so this fall, Mark Taylor will begin an extended program that will train movement educators in Austin, Pittsburgh, and Maryland.

The first of the series in Austin is "skeletal" system and will take place on the following dates:

October 19, 20, 21, 2018

November 9, 10, 11, 2018

The course will provide participants with a working knowledge of the skeletal system and will build skills in movement facilitation and hands-on work. Students will begin a process of personal embodiment of their bones and joints, and will return home with an enhanced understanding of how to apply these skills in their own practice.

In February, the second track of the program will take place in LA. Those who complete both tracks will obtain certification as Somatic Movement Educators and will be eligible to register with the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association.

These training sessions will:

  • Expand your teaching skills in yoga, dance, and other movement disciplines

  • Refine your skills as a therapist or educator

  • Broaden your hands-on skills as a bodyworker, massage therapist, or care provider

If you’re an educator or practitioner in any related discipline and you’re working toward your certification, click here for more information about the Center for Body Mind Movement, and more details about the course and how to register.
